Tell him to tune the guitar properly.
Josh: What's that noise coming from upstairs?
Alison: It's my brother strumming his guitar.
Josh: It doesn't sound quite right to me.
Alison: That's because he's a beginner. Shall I ask him to stop?
Josh: No, just tell him to tune the guitar properly.
Alison: Why don't you come and show him how to do it?
Someone will come to tune (up) the piano tomorrow(明天会有人来为钢琴调音)。乐师一起演奏前,乐器也要调音以相配合,这叫做tune up,The musicians tuned up before the concert即'音乐会开始前,乐师先把乐器调音'. Manchester United was tuned up for its highly-anticipated clash with Real Madrid on Monday(曼联已准备好星期一和皇家马德里来一场万众期待的大战)。 The housing policy for the next decade has to be fine-tuned according to the latest census data(房屋政策必须根据最新人口调查数字加以精细调整)。 I heard him quietly strumming his guitar(我听见他轻轻的在弹吉他)。 She started strumming on the piano(她很轻松的弹起钢琴来)。 [NextPage] She just seems to have the knack.
Melanie: I'm so envious of Lara's cooking.
Anne: Me too, everything she does tastes perfect.
Melanie: I tried some of her recipes myself, but they just don't seem to turn out right.
Anne: You're not the only one, I tried to make her Black Forest cake the other day. It tasted all right but not half as good as Lara's.
Melanie: How does she do it I wonder?
Anne: She just seems to have the knack.
She just seems to have the knack. 由于并非天赋,所以knack可以acquire(学得)、learn(学习)或develop(发展),例如:Once you have acquired the knack, you will not find it so difficult(你一旦掌握了诀窍,就不会觉得那么困难了)。又由于别人难以掌握,所以knack常用uncanny(神秘的)、happy/fortunate(幸运的)、unhappy/unfortunate(不幸的)等字形容,例如:He has an/the uncanny knack for/of making friends(他不知怎样很懂得结识朋友)。
He has the (unhappy) knack of betting on the wrong horses all the time(他总能把钱押在跑输的马匹上,真服了他)。 I'm so envious of Lara's cooking. (1) Her hour-glass figure filled her friends with envy(她沙漏型的身材,令朋友羡慕不已)。(2) His promotion provoked feelings of jealousy among his colleagues(他获得晋升,招来同事嫉妒)。
